TODO is a personalised experience discovery platform designed to connect hosts with attendees through interest-based and location-aware matching.

The product enables users to create, promote, and discover local experiences while reducing the spam-heavy advertising common in existing discovery platforms.

Opportunity & Context :

The local experience discovery landscape in South Africa is fragmented and overwhelming. Platforms like Facebook Events, Meetup, and ticketing services often rely on broad advertising strategies that result in irrelevant promotions and inbox fatigue.

Post-COVID, users are seeking meaningful ways to reconnect with their communities — yet lack a streamlined way to discover experiences aligned with their specific interests.

At the same time, hosts and advertisers need more targeted, cost-effective ways to reach relevant audiences without relying on scattered social channels.

Opportunity:
Design a dual-sided platform that balances personalised experience discovery with responsible, targeted advertising.

Design Approach :

The platform serves two primary user groups: attendees and experience hosts. The design approach focuses on clarity, relevance, and conversion while preventing spam-like experiences.

Key principles included:

  • Interest-driven onboarding to personalise experience feeds

  • Location-based map and card browsing experiences

  • Clear filtering controls to remove irrelevant categories

  • Prominent CTAs to streamline ticket and booking flows

  • Accessible experience creation tools with optional “Boost” advertising

  • Moderation logic to reduce malicious or frivolous listings

The goal is to create a system where users can both consume and produce experiences without friction, while maintaining platform integrity.

Outcome & Impact :
